Tolls Policy
Whip encourages all drivers to obtain their own personal transponders for their Whip vehicles for the duration of their subscription. Each new Whip vehicle must be added to drivers’ transponder in the case of vehicle swaps.
Members who do not wish to obtain their own transponder will be automatically enrolled in Whip’s toll-by-plate solution and will be invoiced on a monthly basis, including a $10.00 administrative fee. Note: the by-plate option is generally more expensive for drivers, as many local authorities offer discounts for tolls paid for using transponders.
If funds are not available on the driver’s transponder, it is mid-replenishment, or it fails for any reason, Whip’s by-plate solution will be used as a backup.
Whip recommends that members add their Whip vehicles as rental or temporary vehicles, and drivers should remove these vehicles from their transponder once the car is returned.
Below is a list of recommended transponders and resources to get started based on member location:
- EZ Pass: DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Richmond & Boston customers
- SunPass: Florida customers
- I Pass: Chicago customers
- Peach Pass: Atlanta customers
As a reminder, toll invoices should be paid immediately upon receipt and are due no later than 7 days after they are sent. Failure to pay these invoices in a timely manner may result in vehicle disablement, recovery, and/or membership termination.
For drivers that would like to dispute a toll invoice because the tolls were paid through their personal transponder account, they should email the following to violations@drivewhip.com within 5 business days of receiving their toll invoice.
- Proof of payment through the local transponder authority; a direct xl or csv export that shows the itemized transaction dates and times
- Proof that the Whip vehicle has been added to the driver’s transponder account
- Toll invoice number from Whip
- Driver full name
- Driver email account on file with Whip
It is very common for drivers to still receive toll invoices from Whip when they have their own transponders, because Whip’s by-plate tolling is used as a backup when driver transponders are being replenished with funds.
