Tesla Basics & Troubleshooting
Drivers will gain access to their Tesla once Whip sends them an invitation to join the Tesla app. Whip will generally send this invite via email or phone number to members at the time of pick up.
The app and phone will be used as the key–no physical key is required! Check out the video below to learn about some of the basic functions of the Tesla app.
Driving Tips for First-Time Tesla Drivers
To enhance the driving experience, first-time Tesla drivers should consider the following tips:
- Familiarize with Controls: Before hitting the road, drivers should take a moment to understand the basic controls, including gear selection, wipers, headlights, and climate settings.
- Practice Regenerative Braking: Tesla vehicles feature regenerative braking, which helps recharge the battery while slowing down. Drivers should practice this feature to optimize efficiency.
- Battery Recalibration: Tesla vehicles tend to adapt to drivers’ behavior. After the first time charging, it helps to drive the car down to around 10–20% and then charge it back up to around 90–100% at least once or twice. Over the course of a week or two of regular driving and charging, the system will “learn” the new driver’s patterns, and the range estimates will become noticeably more accurate. Other Common Issues & Steps to Reset a Tesla
Whip members have also flagged the following common issues that can be easily resolved using a soft reset of the Tesla:
- Touchscreen freezing or lagging
- Bluetooth or audio not responding
- Navigation glitches
- Unresponsive apps or controls
- Minor connectivity issues
A soft reset is quick, safe, and won’t erase any settings. It usually clears up these common issues. Below are the steps to perform a soft reset:
1. Make sure the vehicle is in Park (P)
2. Keep your foot off the brake
3. Hold down both scroll wheels on the steering wheel simultaneously
4. Hold both scroll wheels for about 10–15 seconds, until the center touchscreen turns black
5. Wait for the Tesla logo to appear, and the screen will reboot
